Keep in mind that the Angels still have seven arbitration cases, including John Lackey, Francisco Rodriguez, and Scot Shields.

How about a straight-up trade Garrett Anderson for Manny Ramirez? Could be a bad idea, could be a good idea, just a thought I just had - Shane

There is no way the Red Sox would go for that. One of the main reasons they want to get rid of Manny is to get rid of payroll. Of course, I would rather have GA still just because he is an Angel lifer and he is much better for the team's chemistry than Manny is. Manny produces a lot, but he also significantly disrupts things and there is no way they could cut weight with him like they did with Guillen.

Just to chime in with what Shane said and what some Angel bloggers (sans P-G) have been suggesting what Manny should go for:

The Red Sox have pulled of three deals this winter:

1) Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell, and Guillermo Mota for Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez, and Jesus Delgado.
2) Mark Loretta for Doug Mirabelli
3) Edgar Renteria (and cash) for Andy Marte

If you think for one minute the Red Sox are going to be fleeced in a Manny deal (Finley and Erstad? Garret straight up?), you've got another thing coming.

And by the way, the word verification on that last post was "foktup". Honest to God.

Good point Joe. Even sans-GM, the Red Sox front office is a force to be reckoned with. (Although I'm not sure they deserve credit for the Beckett trade. Dealing with the Marlins right now is sort of like fighting the French - both armies running in the same direction.)

By the way, Josh, I don't know if Madison is getting it as bad as Chicago, but I think we can finally say, Welcome to the Midwest.

We are getting a decent amount of snow (by my count, this is the 7th of the season...which is more than the last two years combined by this point). The snow is falling slowly, but it has been falling all day.

I was waiting for the bus to take me home and when it was 20 minutes late, I called my girlfriend to have her pick me up (she was already de-snowing the car because she wanted to get some stuff at the grocery store) and I went back inside the Chemistry building. It took her 40 minutes to drive from our apartment to where I was...just 2 miles. It took us another hour to get done with our errands (the grocery store is 3 miles from the Chemistry building, but less than a mile from our apartment). Let's just say that all day snow and rush hour traffic do not mix well.

Of course, at least it got above 10 degrees today...

You can't count flurries as snow. And it's snowed this year, but not like this. This is a good 5-8 inches. If it doesn't stick, it doesn't count.

Well, we aren't getting 5-8 inches (yet, anyways). As far as sticking goes, there were a couple that stuck around for about two days, but that last three (including this one) have all stuck. As far as "not counting" goes...EVERY snowflake counts in my book.

This is your first year back there, right? Or have you lived there for a couple of years?

I am in my third winter in Madison. This has also been the coldest and the snowiest.

We had more snow last year. We still have a lot of winter left though. My bad, I thought this was your first year.
