Did he, or didn't he?
According to the LA Times, many in the Angels' organization are now adamant that Jose Guillen did attend a players-only meeting on Wednesday. Yesterday the Times reported that Guillen told reporters he didn't attend because "the meeting isn't going to mean anything."
Some will claim that this is some sort of cover up being perpetrated by Mike Scioscia and some of the Angels' players, but I have the feeling that there is a much more innocent answer. This may just be an honest misunderstanding caused by the combination of Jose not having the best grasp of the English language and Times beat writers being proven idiots.
As Chronicles points out, Guillen never explicitly said he missed the meeting. He simply expressed that he felt the meeting was unimportant. It appears that the Times reporters made an assumption an ran with it. This is simply the latest of example of lackluster reporting from the Times- not some vast conspiracy from inside the Angels. If several players claim that they saw Guillen at the meeting, I would tend to believe he was.
