Olympics: Competitive horse walking
I was forced to watch the Olympic Dressage competition today. What the fuck is this shit? As best I can tell, it's competitive walking. I can't even begin to comprehend how this could be interesting to anyone- even the competitors. This is an actual exchange between me and my lady friend while watching the Dressage:
Me: "What the fuck are we watching here?"
Her: "It's Dressage. You see, the horses walk, then they back-up, then they gallop, and then they prance."
Me: "...and that's interesting, how?"
Her: (very combative) "Well, how is Boxing interesting!?"
Me: (once I stop laughing) "Boxing is a test of two men's strength, speed, agility, endurance, skill, and competitive will as they battle for personal and national honor. This is a test of one horse's ability to walk."
Her: "Fine then, let's watch boxing."
Ok, that last line never happened. She is still watching Dressage at this very moment, which is why I'm in the other room blogging about this whole sequence. It really gives me a new found respect for Frinklin- he's married to one of these people.
Just a thought: Why is there no horse racing at the Olympics? I mean, you've already got a bunch of horses there for all these other lame events, why not put them on a track and see what happens? I'd watch that.
