Schroeder ousted

I haven't heard great things about this Angela Merkel character, but she is apparently more inclined to American forign policy, which can only be a good thing. Really, anyone other than Gerhard Schroeder would have to be considered an improvement on this side of the Atlantic. Let's give it a fresh start, try to get back on the same page.

Merkel is an East German, which makes her more like the Czechs, Poles and Lithuanians than like her W. German compatriots.

However, I think Shroeder will be the Chancellor again. We'll see how it plays out.

Merkel is a Conservative. Conservatives think Germans should be thankful to the US because they helped us so much after WWII (which is right) and the best way to do is to say "yes and amen" (= agree) to anything the US government is going to do (which is not necessarily right). She would certainly be more friendly (obsequious?) to Bush than Schroeder has been.
