Saturday, September 24, 2005StreightEarlier this year, precisely when the Angels hit their last 8 game win streak, I posted about how I feel that every great team needs to have two 8 game win streaks. Of course, Richard chastised me for not using the headline of "Streight," so here that is (I hope you are happy, Richard!). This past week, more than any other time this season (including the previous 8-gamer), has reminded me of that 2002 team that everyone remembers so fondly. The reason is that the bullpen seems to be clicking at the right time, the starters are keeping the offense within striking distance, and the offense is making the big hits whenever they need them.
As a side note, Washburn came back from his injury, stunk a little at the beginning, but came on strongly after that, completely shutting down the Devil Rays. This allowed the offense to catch up, pass, and pull away from that 2 run lead Tampa Bay carried after 1. Finley was 2-3 with a double and a 3-run home run (to take the lead). This pretty much guarantees Finley the start tomorrow and possibly one next week against the A's. I have become convinced that Finley can be a solid spot starter and bench guy (he seems to be able to hit well in his first game after not playing for a week and then can't hit anything in the games immediately after that). Figgins hit a triple, giving him 9 for the season (26 for the last 2 seasons combined) and picked up his 56th steal yesterday, tying him for the AL lead with Scott Podsednik (and just 2 behind major league-leading Jose Reyes). |
