Outfield defense
Chronicles does some great work on the Angel's outfield defense. He finds that the Angels are dead last in converting flyballs to outs. Check it out.
In my opinion the Angel's are worse off this year at all three outfield positions (considering that Jeff DaVannon was in right, which he was most of last year) with the current alignment of Guillen/Anderson/Guerrerro. Now I knew that Guillen wasn't exactly gold-glove material, but his play in left has been atrocious. He has become a significant downgrade over Anderson, who in turn is a HUGE downgrade over Erstad in center. By my (very non scientific) count, at least 6 balls have dropped in front of Anderson and Guillen that certainly would have been caught in last year’s alignment. That doesn't bode well for Washburn's season.
